Wavefront Centre Among Eleven Organizations Awarded Historic Funding from The Slaight Family Foundation

Vancouver, British Columbia– December 3, 2024 – Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of 11 organizations across Canada to receive funding from The Slaight Family Foundation’s landmark $30 million investment in the disability community. This funding is the largest of its kind in Canada by a private foundation and represents a transformative step toward creating a more accessible and inclusive society for people living with disabilities.

“Connecting and expanding programs will dismantle stigma and create a more inclusive society for us all,” said Gary Slaight, President and CEO of The Slaight Family Foundation. “The impact of disability exclusion is significant, not just on people with disabilities and their families, but on our culture and economy as well.”

Wavefront Centre’s CEO, Christopher T. Sutton, expressed gratitude for this momentous opportunity: “This historic investment stresses the importance of accessibility and the vital role of organizations like Wavefront Centre in driving social change. We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the positive impact this project will have on our communities and society as a whole.”

The funding will enable Wavefront Centre to expand critical services, including Video Remote Interpreting and Audio Assistive Technologies, while providing education and raising awareness to empower individuals and businesses to create more inclusive and accessible environments. These efforts are designed to break down communication barriers, foster inclusion, and promote independence and social engagement for individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing.

Mr. Sutton also extends his congratulations to the other remarkable organizations receiving funding and stated that he and his team look forward to collaborating with them to create a more accessible and barrier-free Canada.  He added, “Further thanks goes to Wavefront Centre’s dedicated team, board members, and community supporters, whose unwavering efforts drive our mission forward. Together, we are shaping a society where equal access to communication and connection is a reality for everyone.”
