What to Ask Your Hearing Aid Professional

by | Jan 21, 2025 | Hearing Loss

New hearing aids can provide an improvement to your quality of life. Whether they’re your first  or your latest pair, getting the most recent technology for your hearing can provide many benefits.

During your hearing aid fitting appointment, your hearing aid professional will be ready to answer any questions you may have about your new devices – if you draw a blank on what to ask, here are a few crucial inquiries to make.

How Do I Maintain My Hearing Aids?

Proper hearing aid maintenance is crucial to ensuring your hearing aids function as needed. Just like any other form of technology, your hearing aids need some care to ensure they continue working properly without interruption.

Some tips to help look after your hearing aids include regular cleanings, charging the batteries, keeping them dry and away from water, and putting them somewhere safe when you’re not wearing them.

Accidents happen, despite best efforts. If your hearing aids are damaged or not working as needed, bring them to us so we can determine if a repair is possible.

Do I Need to Wear My Hearing Aids Every Day?

Yes! We recommend that you wear your hearing aids every day, even if you’re home alone, aside from when sleeping, and bathing. This allows you to better adapt to amplification and receive the most benefit from your devices.

How Do I Adjust My Hearing Aids?

Your hearing aid provider will set the hearing aids according to your hearing loss. Your provider will review with you whether you can make minor adjustments yourself, as each model of hearing aid is different. Please keep in mind that hearing aids will reset to the clinician-programmed settings whenever they are turned off/on or removed from their charger.

What Warranty Do I Have on My Hearing Aids?

Hearing aids dispensed from us come with a time-limited repair warranty and damage warranty, as well as a service package.

During your service period, there will be no charge for repair or maintenance appointments, but fees may apply for re-evaluation of your hearing.

What Follow-Up Services and Support Do You Offer?

We offer a 60-day trial period that allows you to return or exchange your hearing aids if you’re not satisfied. After the fitting, we schedule one-to-two follow-up appointments to ensure you’re receiving the expected benefit from your new devices.

We recommend routine hearing aid checks and cleanings, as well as a re-evaluation of your hearing every two years to ensure your hearing aids are programmed appropriately for your hearing loss.

Do you know somebody that needs to see this? Why not share it?

Beth Feltner, Au.D., RAUD

I received my Doctor of Audiology degree from Gallaudet University, where I gained valuable experience working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients who primarily communicated in American Sign Language. Before joining the Wavefront team, I worked at a multidisciplinary non-profit in the United States providing a wide range of audiology services to both adults and children. The most rewarding part of my work is seeing the improvement to my clients’ quality of life through better communication; no matter which form works for them, it’s a privilege to help them find it.
